Routes to the Roof of Africa
Duration: 6 days
Machame Route: The Scenic “Whiskey” RouteMost climbers take a minimum of six days to complete Kilimanjaro via this route. It is considered fairly challenging and is best suited for adventurous hikers with prior trekking experience. Nicknamed the “Whiskey Route,” it is our most popular trail, offering both demanding conditions and spectacular summit views.

Marangu Route: The Classic Coca-Cola RouteThe Marangu Route is the oldest and easiest way up Kilimanjaro, following a gradual slope. While it can be completed in 5 days, Kilimanjaro-Experience offers a 6-day option for better acclimatization. Covering 69 km, it’s nicknamed the “Coca-Cola Route” as the classic trek. Favored during the rainy season, it ascends and descends the same path.

Lemosho Route: High-Success Summit RouteThis 70 km route typically takes 7–8 days to complete. Known for its beauty, low traffic, high summit success, and panoramic views, it is highly recommended.
Duration: minimum 6 days
Rongai Route: Kilimanjaro’s Less Crowded PathThis 70 km northern route, near the Kenyan border, is ideal for those seeking a quieter trek. Taking at least 6 days, it is moderately steep but suitable for hikers with limited experience and is popular during the rainy season.
Duration: 7 days
Shira Route: Scenic High-Altitude AscentThis western route is similar to Lemosho and takes about 7 days. Starting at a high altitude, it requires good acclimatization. The trek is scenic and varied, crossing the stunning Shira Plateau before joining the Machame Route.
The Northern Route, one of Kilimanjaro’s newest and longest trails, allows for excellent acclimatization and has a high summit success rate. It features varied scenery and sees relatively few visitors.
